GRANTS MADE - FISCAL YEAR 2007-2008

$50,000 to Bay-Aging to initiate S.O.S. Plus in Gloucester.  This program is a replica of Senior Outreach to Services with the additional component of targeting the disabled along with the low-income elderly.

$20,000 to the Hampton Family Violence Council for the Protect Our Kids Program, a comprehensive program to help children who live in violent homes and those exposed to violence in the community.  This program is now in its sixth year of providing services to Hampton children.

$20,000 to the Peninsula Agency on Aging for Senior Outreach to Services, a program targeting low-income elderly within local senior housing communities.  This program is now in its fifth year of serving the elderly in Newport News and Hampton.

$30,000 to Mary Immaculate Hospital for a project or projects to further its work in caring for the sick and dying on the Peninsula

$10,000 to The Arc of the Virginia Peninsula to provide a recreation program for people with developmental disabilities (the 2nd year of a 3-year commitment made in 06-07)

a 3-year grant, $15,000 each year, to the Arc of the Virginia Peninsula to ensure that residents in the Arc’s Community Living Program receive much needed dental care

a 3-year grant, $15,000 each year, to Alternatives, Inc. to pay the salary of a Monart instructor who will increase the academic readiness of preschool children through instruction in the Monart visual art "Draw To Read" program

a 3-year grant, $8,100 each year, to the Alzheimer's Association to provide respite-care for low-income families and faith and community based educational outreach

a 3-year grant, $15,000 each year, to St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children to purchase equipment, materials and other educational resources for the Early Intervention Program

a 3-year grant, $14,005 each year, to H.E.L.P., Inc. to contract with RTW services to provide case management services to a Night’s Welcome guests

a 3-year grant, $15,000 each year, to Transitions Family Violence Services to pay the salary of a part-time Program Manager who will be responsible for overseeing the coordination and administration of all aspects of Transitions’ programs including planning, organizing, staffing, leading and evaluating program activities

a 3-year grant, $15,000 each year, to Child Development Resources to support the salary of the registered nurse who is part of the team staffing the Comprehensive Health Investment Project (CHIP) program

a 3-year grant, $13,000 each year, to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula to augment the salary of the full-time Education Program Specialist & Volunteer Coordinator

a 3-year grant, $14,595 each year, to pay the salary and benefits of the VisionPoinT staff member who administers Fresh Start, which provides job readiness skills and training and individual assistance in finding employment for adult men and women who are on probation and parole and who are referred from the Hampton/Newport News Criminal and Correction Division and the State Probation and Parole office

a 3-year grant, $15,000 each year, to the Colonial Virginia Council, Boy Scouts of America for Exploring, the Learning for Life’s career education program for young men and women who have completed the eighth grade or who are 15 through 20 years old

$10,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula to help offset the unexpected costs of uninsured children in the Smart Smiles program for 2007-08

$10,000 to Transitions Family Violence Services for IMPACT (Information Means Peaceful Alternatives can Come True).  The project will provide comprehensive outreach services and face-to-face support for drop-in clients and targeted underserved populations in Hampton, Newport News, York County and Poquoson to ensure that they are safe from abuse.

$25,000 to Preschool Partners to pay the salary and benefits of the Quality Assistance Specialist

$10,000 to LINK of Hampton Roads, Inc. to assist in the offset of program costs not covered by the CANLINK I, CANLINK II and CANLINK III HUD grants for Supportive Housing Programs for the Homeless Disabled and the Chronically Homeless Disabled

$21,550 to the Salvation Army to provide funding for transportation, rental assistance, client management software and hygiene kits for the Red Shield Emergency Shelter Program

$20,000 to the Gloucester Mathews Free Clinic to assist with paying the increased salary of the newly hired Executive Director.  In addition to the normal duties associated with running the Clinic, the Executive Director will be responsible for grant seeking and fund raising to build a new facility as well as the marketing of the Clinic to raise awareness in the community of it and the services it provides.

$19,600 to Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia, Inc. to pay the salary of the Rapp Program Coordinator.  The Grandparents as Parents/Relatives as Parents Program is available to all grandparents who are parenting their grandchildren and relatives who are parenting relatives’ children.

$10,000 to the Marching Elites Association to provide learning equipment and supplies for the Little Tin Soldiers Educational Center

$25,000 to Safehaven, a 12-bed facility that provides emergency shelter for children ages 4 through 17, to hire a full-time Program Director

$10,000 Core Operating support grants were awarded to the following agencies:  Peninsula Reads, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula, Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia (Peninsula Office), Downtown Hampton Child Development Center, Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula, Gloucester Housing Partnership, Housing Development Corporation of Hampton Roads, Lackey Free Family Medicine Clinic, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Safehaven and Transitions Family Violence Services.
